Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) on Wednesday held the induction and oath-taking ceremony for its newly elected team of office bearers at Town Hall, marking the formal transition of leadership for the 2025–2030 tenure. The new team is headed by GK Rengma as president, with M. Biremong as vice president (Administration), M. Sapong Chang as vice president (Council Bench), L.K. Peter as general secretary, Levusie Nyuthe as joint secretary (Administration), Thejangule Kire as joint secretary (attached to president), Medovie Koza as finance secretary, Tiatemsu Longchar as media cell secretary, and Hotoshe Sumi as treasurer, among others.
Delivering his farewell address, outgoing president Etsungmomo Kikon expressed gratitude for a successful tenure, highlighting NCD’s founding in 1949 to uphold Naga unity and promote harmony among the city’s diverse communities. Kikon recounted the council’s achievements under his leadership, including the introduction of a systematic burial system, participation in the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), celebration of NCD’s 75th anniversary, blessing of the new Naga Cemetery, and approval of funds for constructing the NCD office building. Newly elected president GK Rengma expressed humility and gratitude, vowing to prioritize unity, respect, and cooperation across communities. He pledged to work closely with the district administration and police to ensure Dimapur remains safe, inclusive, and conducive for business, while safeguarding citizens’ rights irrespective of tribe, faith, or background.
Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang lauded the outgoing team and congratulated the new office bearers, emphasizing that leadership in NCD is a responsibility to serve with humility, courage, and vision. Dr. Chang urged the council to uphold peace, inter-community harmony, and accountability in Dimapur, a city of strategic and cultural significance in Nagaland. The ceremony included prayers, invocation, and oath-taking administered by the nomination committee, chaired by Ben Pamai, with dedication by Rev. Dr. N. Paphino, reflecting NCD’s longstanding tradition of combining leadership with spiritual and cultural values.
