The Governor of Nagaland and Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla presented the Governor’s Award for Distinction in the Fields of Arts, Music and Literature 2025 at a formal ceremony held at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Lok Bhavan, in Kohima. The event brought together artists, musicians, writers, officials and members of the public to recognise individuals and groups who have made notable contributions to the cultural life of Nagaland. Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Bhalla said he was pleased to confer the awards and described the occasion as a celebration of the State’s creative strength and cultural richness.
The Governor said Nagaland has a deep and vibrant cultural tradition that is reflected in its many languages, folk stories, music forms and artistic practices. He noted that art and literature are not separate from daily life in the State but are closely connected to the identity and history of its people. According to him, these creative expressions carry the collective memory of generations and help keep traditions alive. Highlighting the importance of creative work in today’s fast-changing world, the Governor said artists, musicians and writers play a dual role. While they protect and preserve cultural heritage, they also introduce new ideas and fresh ways of thinking. Through their work, he said, they help society move forward without losing its roots.
Congratulating the award recipients, Governor Bhalla said their achievements were the result of sustained effort, commitment and passion. He added that their journeys should inspire young people to take up creative fields and contribute positively to society. He also acknowledged the role played by families, teachers, cultural institutions and organisations in supporting and guiding creative talent. The Governor stressed that cultural development must progress alongside economic and technological growth. He urged educational institutions, government departments and civil society groups to continue encouraging artistic expression and to create more platforms where creative voices can be heard and appreciated.
