Nagaland Governor La Ganesan, who also serves as President of the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland State Branch, urged the youth to take the lead in humanitarian work while speaking at a special event held in Kohima on World Red Cross Day. The programme, organized at the Red Cross Complex, was themed “Through Humanity to Peace.” In his address, Governor Ganesan praised the tireless efforts of Red Cross volunteers, particularly those working in disaster-prone and remote areas of Nagaland. “Your work is not merely a duty, it is a testament to the power of collective compassion,” he said. He added that Red Cross members represent values such as hope, empathy, and kindness—especially crucial during times of crisis.
Encouraging the youth to become active contributors in society, the Governor said, “You are not just the leaders of tomorrow; you are the changemakers of today.” He highlighted global challenges like climate change and inequality, calling for young people’s idealism and commitment. The Governor also stressed the importance of nurturing empathy from a young age and suggested that compassion and service should be instilled both at home and in schools. Concluding with a quote from Red Cross founder Henry Dunant, he reminded everyone: “We are neither angels nor saints, but human beings who try to do what we can, for as long as we can.”
The event included a welcome address by Jonas Yanthan, thematic reflections from Dr. R. Rose Chakhesang, and a message from the Secretary General read by Akhale V. Khamo. A vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Theyiephrezo James Solo, and Vice Chairperson Helena Yepthomi chaired the session.
