The Nagaland Olympic Association has informed that the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2026, scheduled to be held from April 7 to 18, have been postponed until further notice.
The Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) had earlier announced that the Games would be organized at Kohima, Chumoukedima, and Dimapur during the above-mentioned period. Following a review of the schedule and after consultations with affiliated sports associations and stakeholders, it has been decided to postpone the Games, NOA said.
This decision has been taken to ensure wider participation and the smooth conduct of the Games, taking into consideration that a significant number of participating athletes are students and the earlier scheduled dates coincide with examinations and academic commitments in various educational institutions.
The proposed dates also overlap with certain pre-scheduled sporting activities and competition calendars of various state sports associations and national sports federations, which may affect the availability and participation of athletes, technical officials, and teams.
The postponement will provide districts, associations, and athletes additional time for effective preparation and coordination, thereby supporting broader participation and maintaining a high standard of competition.
The revised dates for the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2026 will be notified in due course after completing the necessary coordination with the concerned stakeholders.
The Nagaland Olympic Association said it remains committed to the promotion and development of sports in the state and will continue to work towards providing meaningful platforms and opportunities for athletes and sports enthusiasts across Nagaland to showcase their talents and pursue excellence in sports.
All affiliated associations, districts, athletes, and stakeholders are requested to take note of this notification and extend their continued cooperation, NOA said.
