With a record increase in GST collection due to structural reforms, capacity building, and improved enforcement procedures, Nagaland’s State Tax Department has achieved a significant milestone. During the first quarter of FY 2025-26, petroleum income increased by 31%, while GST revenues increased by 43% in April, 44% in May, and an astounding 104% in June 2025.
Abhinav Shivam, IAS, Commissioner of State Taxes, attributed this achievement to the Directorate’s and field officers’ combined efforts as well as rising corporate compliance. Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary and Finance Commissioner, kicked off four new enforcement vehicles, including mobile squads, to improve outreach and mobility and improve field operations. Shivam cautioned against enduring issues like false billing, ITC fraud, and underreporting and advised taxpayers to embrace transparency.
