The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has appointed senior leader K. G. Kenye as the Party Chief Whip of the NPF Legislature Party in the 14th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
The appointment was made on February 27 by the President of the NPF under Article V, Clause 10 of the party constitution. The order came into effect immediately. Kenye is currently serving as Nagaland’s Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs.
Party sources said the decision was taken keeping in view the upcoming budget session of the Assembly. The first phase of the session will begin on March 2 and continue till March 12, with five sittings scheduled. The session will open with an address by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
The second phase of the session is expected to begin with the presentation of the state budget for 2026–27. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will present the budget, after which discussions will follow. The detailed schedule for the second phase will be announced on the last day of the first phase.
During the first part of the session, members will raise questions and discuss important public issues. Annual administrative reports and committee reports will be tabled. Government and private members’ Bills and resolutions are also expected to be introduced, along with a debate on the Motion of Thanks.
The second phase will include presentation of C&AG reports, review of receipts and expenditure, and supplementary demands for grants for 2025–26.
The session will also take up key matters such as the signing of the Frontier Nagaland Territory Authority agreement and the demand from sections in Kohima and Dimapur to lift the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989, in their areas.
This will be the first budget session after the tripartite agreement on the Frontier Nagaland Territory Authority was signed between the Centre, the state government and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation. It will also be the first budget session after the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party with the NPF.
