NSDC’s Centre for Future Skills Expands to Embed Global Certifications in Higher Education

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has expanded its flagship Centre for Future Skills (CFS) initiative, embedding global certifications, advanced technical training and project-based learning into mainstream higher education degrees. Positioned as a long-term national intervention, the initiative aims to impact one million students over the next decade by aligning academic pathways with globally benchmarked industry standards and emerging technology needs.

Currently operational in 12 institutions with over 43,000 candidates trained, the CFS model integrates academic credit pathways, industry-recognised certifications and state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure within campuses. Each certification course runs 45–50 hours per semester in physical lab mode. Students earn two to three academic credits per semester alongside globally recognised credentials without extending degree duration. NSDC plans to add 22 more centres over the next three years.

At the newly inaugurated Centre at the Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT), Kochi, around 3,500 students per semester are expected to enrol. Through partnerships with leading global technology firms, CFS offers over 200 certification programmes at subsidised costs. Under structured multi-semester pathways such as Software Engineering, students may graduate with four to six certifications spanning full-stack development, cloud, DevOps and application development.

In Guwahati, the initiative aligns with the city’s expanding IT services, startup ecosystem and demand for cloud and software talent. Access to subsidised global certifications within degree programmes could enhance workforce readiness in Assam, strengthen employability outcomes, and reduce corporate training costs for companies operating in the Guwahati market.
