NSF seeks ILP checkpoints at the railway station and airport in Dimapur, as well as stricter inner line controls

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has renewed its call for stricter enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, urging the Nagaland government to immediately set up ILP checkpoints at Dimapur Airport and the Railway Station. The federation said these locations remain major entry points where non-indigenous individuals enter the state without proper monitoring. The demand was raised during a coordination meeting held on November 19 at APO Oking in Kohima, where NSF leaders met with the Angami Public Organization (APO) and its affiliated bodies.

Speaking at the meeting, NSF President Mteisuding described stronger Inner Line controls as “not merely an administrative requirement but a historical and moral imperative to protect the rights, land and future of the Naga people.” Chairman of the Inner Line Regulation Committee, NSN Lotha, submitted detailed recommendations outlining the gaps in the state’s current monitoring system. He pointed out that the absence of checkpoints at Dimapur’s key transit points continues to allow unchecked movement of individuals from outside the state.

The meeting also saw active participation from the Angami Women Organization and the Angami Students’ Union, both of which extended full support to tightening ILP enforcement. APO President Theja-o Vihienuo announced the formation of a Core Committee on ILP to address enforcement issues in a more coordinated manner. He also highlighted the need for long-term strategies such as youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods to reduce dependence on migrant labour.
