People with disabilities are observed by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, Sunday emphasizes empowerment and inclusivity

The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), in collaboration with Tabitha Enabling Academy, Deaf Prayer Fellowship Kohima, Blessed Bonding, and the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Nagaland, observed Persons with Disabilities Sunday at the NBCC Platinum Hall, Bayavü Hill, Kohima, on November 16. The programme was held under the theme “Strength in Weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9–10), emphasizing the spiritual value, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities.

Delivering the message, NBCC Social Concern Secretary Dr. Villo Naleo drew inspiration from the biblical account of Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9:1–13), highlighting the importance of mercy, societal support, and inclusive care. He noted that disability is part of the shared human condition and should never be seen as weakness, urging families to foster resilience by exposing children to diverse experiences rather than overprotecting them. The programme featured a personal testimony from Aye, who shared his journey of overcoming challenges with the help of a sign language interpreter. From learning sign language to passing Class 10, Aye credited his success to the support of family, teachers, and friends, highlighting Romans 8:18 as a source of perseverance.

Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, NBCC General Secretary, reaffirmed the inherent value and purpose of every individual and encouraged the Church to build inclusive communities grounded in compassion and respect. Other speakers, including Leneiseno Sale of Jo Foundation Inclusive School, Lily Meyase, and Asanuo S. Thong of Tabitha Enabling Academy, highlighted the importance of focusing on strengths, providing personalized support, and empowering persons with disabilities to live independently.
