slice Small Finance Bank Expands Footprint, Creates Jobs Across Assam and Northeast

slice Small Finance Bank (SFB) has appointed former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Executive Director Eugene Emmanuel Karthak as its Part-time Chairman and Independent Director, reinforcing its leadership in the Northeast. Karthak, who served over three decades at the RBI, led key departments including Information Technology and Corporate Services, and also worked as Regional Director in Delhi and Bengaluru. He played a pivotal role in regulatory compliance, policy implementation, and institutional productivity. Currently, he also serves as Director of the Guwahati-based Indian Institute of Bank Management, and is on the Governing Council of CAFRAL, Mumbai.

With its headquarters in Assam, slice SFB is steadily expanding in the region, opening new branches in Nagaland and Mizoram while generating over 400 jobs in the past year. The bank has also prioritized MSME growth, agri-linked enterprises, and women’s financial empowerment. In Guwahati, where demand for accessible banking services continues to rise, the appointment is seen as a major step in strengthening local trust and ensuring faster, tech-driven solutions for small businesses and underserved borrowers. Analysts note that Karthak’s deep roots in the Northeast will help slice build stronger community linkages in the city and beyond.
