T R Zeliang Calls on Citizens to Drive Nagaland’s Change

Nagaland requires a total and comprehensive transformation, and this can only be achieved if every citizen plays an active role in the process, State Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang said. Addressing a programme to mark the 75th anniversary of New Tesen village in Nagaland, Zeliang said transformation was not the responsibility of the government alone but a collective effort that needed the participation and support of all sections of society. He said meaningful change would come only when people worked together with a shared sense of purpose. “Together we can build a society that is strong, resilient, just, inclusive and prosperous,” the Deputy Chief Minister said while speaking to the gathering. He urged the people to embrace change, strengthen community bonds and work closely with the government to build a sustainable future for the State.

According to a statement from the Deputy Chief Minister’s media cell, Zeliang said the government remained committed to creating an environment where all citizens could grow and progress. He said Nagaland was moving forward with a clear vision and a spirit of cooperation, and expressed confidence that the ongoing changes would lead to a more united and progressive Naga society. Highlighting the areas that needed urgent and sustained attention, Zeliang said peace and stability were essential for development. He also stressed the need to promote economic growth, improve infrastructure, strengthen the education system, expand skill development, preserve and promote Naga culture and identity, and improve healthcare and social welfare services across the State. Addressing the youth, the Deputy Chief Minister said young people must understand the realities of the modern world and should not depend only on government jobs. He said the future of Nagaland depended largely on how creatively and responsibly the youth used their education and skills. He pointed out that there were many opportunities in entrepreneurship, agriculture and allied sectors, skill-based professions, small businesses and other private sector activities.

Zeliang emphasised the importance of dignity of labour and said success should not be measured only by securing government employment. Instead, he said, success should be seen in how individuals contribute to society, create livelihoods and strengthen their communities. He encouraged young people to become job creators rather than job seekers and called upon them to adopt innovation, hard work and self-reliance. The Deputy Chief Minister also said that Peren district held an important place in Nagaland’s development journey. He assured that the government would work towards inclusive growth in the district by improving road connectivity, strengthening the education system, enhancing healthcare services and expanding livelihood opportunities.
