Tamil Nadu has signed MoUs with domestic food brands Sri Krishna Sweets, Annapoorna, and Hatsun Agro to establish industrial kitchens, enhance R&D, and boost export capabilities. Highlighting food processing as a key sector at the TN Rising Conclave, the state aims to position Coimbatore as a hub for transforming regional brands into global leaders.
Sri Krishna Sweets plans a Rs 100 crore investment in an export-focused sweets unit with an attached research facility, generating around 200 jobs. Annapoorna will invest Rs 300 crore in a centralised industrial kitchen in Coimbatore, creating 500 jobs. Hatsun Agro Products will invest Rs 860 crore to set up 400 dairy production units, expand cold chain infrastructure, and enhance retail presence. The facility will feature one of South India’s largest production lines and an R&D centre for new products, boosting value-added lines like IBACO.
The state government will provide single-window approvals, policy incentives, and export support to participating companies. TN Industries Minister TRB Rajaa emphasized the potential for local food brands to compete globally, citing examples like MTR Foods and Haldiram’s. Additional MoUs include E Star Foods investing Rs 200 crore in a tea and beverage unit creating 1,000 jobs, and Podaran Foods’ Rs 310 crore cool drinks facility generating 300 jobs, further strengthening the region’s food industry.
