The much-awaited “Viraasat Handloom Expo” launches in Guwahati

The much-awaited Viraasat Special Handloom Expo has been inaugurated at Mahavir Dharm Sthal, M.S. Road, Fancy Bazar, Guwahati. The event was inaugurated by Jayant B. Mangalpalli, Assistant Director (Design), Ministry of Textiles, Development Commissioner (Handloom), WSC Guwahati.

Organized by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the week-long Expo (January 8–14, 2025) aims to celebrate India’s rich handloom heritage and provide a platform for weavers to showcase their extraordinary craftsmanship. In his inaugural address, Mr. Jayant B. Mangalpalli emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable and ethical fashion through India’s diverse handloom traditions.

The Expo features an extensive range of handloom products, including Banarasi, Jamdani, Baluchari, Kosa, Muga, Eri, Ikkat, Patola, Maheshwari, Mekhela Chador, Kota Doria, Bhagalpuri, and Phulkari, among others. Held under the campaigns #MyHandloomMyPride and #MyProductMyPride, the expo aligns with the ministry’s mission to strengthen the weavers’ economy and foster awareness of India’s unparalleled textile heritage. The exhibition cum sale will be open daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM until January 14, 2025, with free entry for all.
