To promote development, Nagaland MP calls for BG Express to be extended and full NABARD coverage

Nagaland MP S. Supongmeren Jamir has urged the Union Government to address critical gaps in development and connectivity in the state, calling for full coverage of NABARD initiatives and the extension of a key train service.

Speaking on behalf of his constituency, Jamir highlighted the inadequate presence of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in Nagaland. “Out of the state’s 17 districts, only five are covered by the Dimapur regional office,” he said. He added that four other districts are managed by just two Assistant General Managers without support staff, leaving 12 districts without proper NABARD outreach. Jamir requested Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to deploy sufficient manpower to ensure all districts benefit from NABARD programs, as is the case in neighboring Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

In his second appeal, Jamir urged the Union Railway Ministry to extend the BG Express (Train No. 15665) from Mariani in Assam to Tuli in Nagaland. The Nagaland Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution on this in April 2025, followed by official communication to the Northeast Frontier Railway in May. Jamir stressed that the proposal involves extending an existing train on a constructed railway line, which would significantly improve regional connectivity.
