Udalguri District ramps up health awareness on water-borne diseases

This week, a number of health awareness events were staged in several tea estates in the Udalguri region in response to the recent increase in cholera and diarrhea cases around the state. The District Health Society and NRDS collaborated to plan the program, which sought to inform locals and tea garden workers about water-borne disease prevention and control. Awareness seminars were conducted at the tea plantations of Suwala, Nonaipara, and Atherikhat. Attending the seminar at Atherikhat, District Epidemiologist Dr. Satyajit Talukdar and District Surveillance Officer Dr. Dhruvajyoti Pathak emphasized the significance of timely medical consultation, cleanliness, and safe drinking water in preventing epidemics.

Dr. Kumud Chandra Das, Joint Director of Health Services, spoke to the crowds, while NHM District Programme Manager Basil Topp participated in the event alongside Satyajit Talukdar and Lakhyajyoti Bhuyan. The seminars, which focused on cleanliness standards and the importance of being vigilant during the monsoon season, featured interactive talks, demonstrations, and community participation. Officials emphasized that the most effective ways to prevent cholera and diarrhea in susceptible tea garden areas were still early identification, hygiene, and appropriate access to healthcare.
