Silchar MP Flags Off Month-Long Road Safety Bike Rally from Masimpur Military Station

Marking National Road Safety Month 2026 and as part of the celebrations for Indian Army Day, Silchar Lok Sabha MP Parimal Suklabaidya on Thursday flagged off a month-long mega road safety awareness bike rally titled “Pather Barta Pothe Jatra” from the Masimpur Military Station.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the growing number of road accident fatalities across the country. Citing recent statistics, organisers said that over 1.72 lakh people lose their lives annually in road accidents in India, with individuals in the 18–45 age group being the most vulnerable. Road accidents are also estimated to cause economic losses amounting to nearly three per cent of India’s GDP.

As part of the initiative, the bike rally will cover all 162 gram panchayats, three municipal boards and one municipal corporation under the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency. Throughout the month, the rally team will conduct road safety awareness programmes in schools, colleges and government offices, reaching people at the grassroots level.

In addition to spreading awareness among the general public, the campaign will focus on training police personnel and citizens in life-saving skills and sensitising them about the provisions of the Good Samaritan Act, which protects individuals who help accident victims.

Speaking to the media, MP Parimal Suklabaidya said the primary objective of the rally was to promote safe road practices and reduce accidents. “Through this road journey, we want to take the message of road safety to every corner and work collectively towards saving lives,” he said.

The initiative has received active support from the Indian Army, civil administration and local institutions, reflecting a collaborative approach to strengthening road safety awareness across the region.
