India received more than 4,168 crore spam calls in 2025, highlighting the expanding scale of digital fraud risks in an increasingly connected economy, according to Truecaller’s India Insights Report 2025. The report states that the Truecaller community blocked 1,189 crore unwanted calls before they reached users, helping millions avoid scams, wasted time, and financial losses. With over 100 crore active phone connections supporting commerce, governance, and daily communication, trust in digital interactions is emerging as a critical pillar of India’s “Viksit Bharat” growth vision.
Truecaller also detected 770 crore fraudulent calls, many impersonating banks, government authorities, payment platforms, and well-known brands. Spam messaging remained another major concern, with 12,903 crore spam SMS identified during the year, particularly rising in the second half of 2025. Based on an average call duration of 1.8 minutes, blocking spam calls helped Indians avoid 21.7 lakh hours of wasted time daily, translating to more than 1.5 crore hours weekly. CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala said building trust in communication is essential as fraud increasingly exploits urgency and uncertainty.
In Guwahati, telecom retailers and digital service providers report rising adoption of caller-identification and spam-blocking tools among businesses and consumers, as secure communication becomes essential for commercial transactions, customer outreach, and financial operations across the Northeast’s growing digital economy.
