Ambuja Cements, the world’s ninth-largest building materials solutions provider and part of the diversified Adani Portfolio, along with the Adani Foundation, has launched a football promotion programme in Umrangso in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, aimed at nurturing sporting talent and promoting holistic development among rural youth.
The initiative has been rolled out across Borolokhindong, Tharvelangso and Chotolokhindong villages to address the lack of proper sports infrastructure and training opportunities in rural areas where football enjoys deep cultural significance and strong popularity among young people.
Through the programme, Ambuja Cements supported 81 rural youths, including 54 boys and 27 girls, by improving playground facilities and distributing sports kits to enable structured football training. The intervention aims to equip young players with the resources required to develop their skills and pursue competitive opportunities.
The programme has also played a key role in encouraging girls’ participation in sports by creating an inclusive and supportive environment for them to actively engage in football.
With increased exposure and improved facilities, several participants are now exploring opportunities to compete at the district level, opening potential pathways for future sports careers.
