Short Circuit Triggers Blaze at State Guest House

A fire broke out at Nagaland House on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road in New Delhi, reportedly due to an electrical short circuit in an air-conditioning unit. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. According to officials, the fire originated in Room No. 2 of the state guest house and spread rapidly, prompting an immediate response from staff members present on the premises. Adviser to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Abu Metha, said staff of Nagaland House acted swiftly and used fire extinguishers available within the building, neighbouring apartments and nearby offices to contain the flames before the arrival of the Delhi Fire Service.

In a post on X, Metha said the intensity of the fire made it difficult to approach the affected area from the front of the building. As a result, staff members climbed onto the roof and attempted to control the blaze by using fire extinguishers through the rear windows until firefighters reached the site. The Delhi Fire Service later brought the situation completely under control, preventing further spread of the fire. Officials confirmed that no one was injured during the incident. Following the fire, concerned authorities and senior Nagaland government officials began assessing the extent of the damage caused to the building and examining its structural condition.

Nagaland House has served as the official state guest house in the national capital since its inauguration in 1973 by former Nagaland Chief Minister Hokeshe Sema. The building has been used for more than five decades by government officials, visitors and residents from the state travelling to New Delhi. Metha noted that the Nagaland government had already initiated plans to replace the ageing structure with a modern facility. He expressed hope that the redevelopment process would now move forward at a faster pace in light of the incident.
