Guwahati city may once again be hit by heavy downpour. The Regional Meteorological Centre, Borjhar has forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms in Assam and several other Northeastern states.
According to the warning issued at 8:30 AM on Saturday, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain up to 6 cm in Guwahati in the next 24 hours. Some areas may witness heavy rain between 7 to 11 cm. The warning will remain in effect till 8:30 AM on Sunday.
If heavy rain occurs, waterlogging is likely in low-lying areas and underpasses of the city. This could disrupt traffic on several important roads and increase travel time. Visibility on roads may also reduce during intense rain, impacting vehicular movement.
Meanwhile, the weather department has warned that power supply and municipal services may be temporarily disrupted due to adverse weather. Ferry and boat services are also likely to be affected. Due to strong winds and wet soil, there is a possibility of trees being uprooted. There is also a risk of landslides and soil erosion in hilly and vulnerable areas.
In view of the situation, the public has been advised to stay alert to the latest weather updates and administration guidelines. People have been urged to take shelter in safe places during lightning and to avoid travel unless necessary. They have also been cautioned against traveling through waterlogged, slippery and landslide-prone areas.
