Rio Congratulates Padma Shri Awardee Pongener

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has congratulated Guru Sangyusang Pongener on being conferred the Padma Shri Award 2026 in recognition of his contribution to the field of art and cultural preservation.In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister praised Pongener’s lifelong efforts to preserve and promote Nagaland’s rich folk traditions, describing his contribution to the state’s cultural heritage as remarkable and inspiring.

Rio said Pongener has dedicated more than six decades to safeguarding traditional art forms, folk music and cultural practices, helping ensure that Naga traditions continue to be passed on to future generations.“His lifelong commitment to preserving the rich folk heritage of Nagaland over the past six decades is inspiring,” the Chief Minister said while extending his congratulations and best wishes to the veteran cultural figure.

He noted that Pongener’s work has played an important role in strengthening and preserving the cultural identity of the Naga people and has earned recognition beyond the state. The Chief Minister also wished the Padma Shri awardee continued success in his future endeavours and acknowledged his contribution towards keeping indigenous traditions alive in a rapidly changing world.
