Medical Relief Camp Operational in Flood-Affected Namchi as Sikkim Health Dept Ramps Up Support

The Sikkim Health Department is extending all possible healthcare support to the flood affected communities in the State with necessary preventive and public health measures undertaken to minimise the risk of communicable diseases and safeguard the health and well-being of the affected population.
Director cum Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Junita Yonzon on Saturday visited the flood-affected Lingi Paiyong area under Yangyang PHC in Namchi district, to review the preparedness for the establishment of a medical relief camp and assess the healthcare response in the affected locality.
During the visit, Dr. Yonzon assessed the prevailing situation and interacted with the health team, emphasizing the need for a prompt, coordinated, and effective healthcare response to ensure uninterrupted medical services for the affected population.
She directed the officials and healthcare personnel to remain vigilant and fully prepared to address any emerging public health concerns arising from the disaster.
Recognising the urgent healthcare needs of the affected community, essential medicines, emergency medical supplies, and other necessary logistics were provided to facilitate the operationalisation of the medical relief camp.
The camp will deliver essential healthcare services whenever required.
Special emphasis will be placed on the care and monitoring of vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, infants and children, elderly persons and individuals living with chronic medical conditions, ensuring that they receive timely and appropriate medical attention.
