2 Injured In Naharani Buffalo Attack, Animal Sighted At Nopathar Fields

A wild buffalo injured two people and triggered panic in the Naharani area of Khowang in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Saturday, prompting the Forest Department and police to launch a joint operation to contain the situation.

The animal attacked 46-year-old Bharat Saikia, a resident of Naharani, and 51-year-old Sarat Saikia of Nagaon village, leaving both seriously injured.

Local residents rescued the injured men and rushed them to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, officials from the Khowang Regional Forest Office and Khowang Police rushed to the area to prevent further attacks. Forest personnel used firecrackers to drive the buffalo away from nearby residential areas and have been closely monitoring its movements.

According to Forest Department sources, the buffalo is currently taking shelter in agricultural fields at Nopathar in Naharani. Officials said a coordinated operation, with assistance from the police, will be carried out in the evening to safely drive the animal away from the locality.

The Forest Department has urged residents to remain alert and avoid venturing into the affected area unless absolutely necessary until the situation is brought under control.
