Under the initiative of Pathik, one of Assam’s leading voluntary organizations, and with support from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Jorhat, a welfare programme was launched today as part of a three-day schedule for elderly people living on the pavements of Guwahati. The programme includes distribution of footwear, care services, and an awareness drive on hygiene.
This morning, the services were provided to people living on the pavements in the Ulubari and Lachit Nagar areas and nearby localities.
It may be mentioned that, upholding its social responsibility, Pathik has been serving the needy for the past 22 years through 15 projects, including “Muktipath” for assisting in cremation rites for the poor, “Free Sunday OPD”, women’s hygiene project “Srimoyee”, “Jalaspondan”, “Hepah”, “Raktadut” (Blood Donor) and others.
The programme was attended by Minoti Boruah, Vice President of Pathik; Monalisa Mahanta, Project Coordinator; Prakash Boruah, Administrator; Rajlakshmi Rajshree, Women’s Hygiene Advisor and Coordinator; and Victor Rajkumar, Director.
The organizers informed that if any elderly person is found to require medical attention during the course of this project, that will also be taken care of.
