Kaziranga esz reduction proposal: cong to stage statewide padayatra on aug 29

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is set to stage a statewide padayatra in protest against the proposed reduction of the eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) of Kaziranga National Park from the existing 10-kilometre radius to a one-kilometre radius.

Expressing grave concern over the threat posed by the move to the wildlife, biodiversity and fragile ecosystem of the world-renowned National Park, the party decided to take out the padayatra across all districts on August 29.

The protest has been called in accordance with a directive of APCC president and Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi.

In an official circular issued in this regard, APCC general secretary (organisation), Ramanna Baruah, requested all district Congress committee presidents to organise the padayatra in their respective districts.

All party leaders and grassroots workers have been instructed to participate in the march to build a strong public voice against what the party termed as a “detrimental decision”.
