SBI General Insurance has launched a flood relief and recovery initiative in Assam in partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Ayang Trust, combining immediate food assistance with essential relief supplies for affected communities. Through The Akshaya Patra Foundation, the insurer is facilitating the distribution of fresh, hygienic and nutritious hot meals in Jorhat district. Separately, its partnership with Ayang Trust will support 1,000 flood-affected households across Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo, covering 300, 400 and 300 households respectively and reaching around 4,000 people. The relief kits, prepared in coordination with district administrations, include bed sheets, blankets, buckets and mugs, sanitary pads and essential utensils.
In Jorhat, the initiative assumes significance as flooding disrupts household spending, livelihoods and access to basic necessities. Food and essential household supplies can provide immediate support to affected families while helping ease pressure on local communities and the rural economy. SBI General Insurance MD and CEO Naveen Chandra Jha said the company aims to stand with communities during natural disasters. Head-Marketing & CSR Rathin Lahiri said timely assistance addressing basic needs is critical during the recovery period.
