KPC Medical College’s solar investment highlights Kolkata’s institutional energy shift

KPC Medical College & Hospital, Jadavpur, has commissioned a 100 kWp solar power plant at one of its units, highlighting the potential for renewable energy adoption among the city’s health care and educational institutions. The college describes the installation as the first of its kind among private medical colleges in Kolkata.

The project, designed and installed by Innovel Energy Services Pvt. Ltd., formerly Bhaskar Solar, is expected to reduce electricity expenditure over the long term. KPC Medical College CEO Debabrata Dutta said the investment is projected to pay for itself in approximately three years, with savings expected to continue for another 25 to 30 years.

The plant was inaugurated by Jadavpur MLA Sarbori Mukherjee and Dr Santipada (S.P.) Gon Chaudhuri, former managing director of the West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA) and a Green Oscar awardee.

Partha P. Chatterjee, CEO of Innovel Energy Services, said quality design, engineering and installation were central to ensuring reliable solar plant performance. He expressed confidence that the project would serve as an example for other health care and educational institutions considering renewable energy investments.

Krishna Das, secretary of KPC Medical College and Hospital Society, and Sapna Dutta of KPC Group attended the inauguration.

Established in 2006, KPC Medical College is affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and is West Bengal’s first private medical college. Innovel Energy Services, founded in 2002, has completed more than 250,000 installations.
