Metals Giant Vedanta Posts 57% Q2 Revenue Surge Amid Record Production Milestones

Metals and mining conglomerate Vedanta Ltd reported a stellar performance for the second quarter ended September 2026, with consolidated profit after tax leaping 151 percent year-on-year to ₹6,202 crore compared to ₹2,471 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. The company’s total revenue surged 57 percent to ₹25,812 crore during the July-September quarter, up from ₹16,445 crore recorded in the same period last year. Driven by favorable market and regulatory environments alongside higher volumes, marketing gains, and operational efficiencies, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization reached a record ₹9,938 crore for Q2FY27, marking a 17 percent quarter-on-quarter increase despite facing partial offsets from higher costs. Demonstrating exceptional balance sheet strength, Vedanta significantly reduced its net debt by ₹4,624 crore sequentially to ₹3,675 crore from ₹8,299 crore reported at the end of June 2026, primarily fueled by strong operational cash generation. Pre-capex free cash flow for the quarter rose to ₹5,803 crore compared to ₹4,412 crore in Q1FY27. On the expansion front, the company deployed ₹1,135 crore toward growth capex during the second quarter, bringing its cumulative first-half growth capital expenditure to ₹2,283 crore for the April-September period. Operational momentum remained robust across business divisions, highlighted by Zinc India achieving a record Q2 mined metal production of 271 thousand tonnes, representing a 5 percent increase year-on-year, while silver output surged 20 percent to reach 173 tonnes. Executive Director Arun Misra noted that the quarter was marked by historic achievements, including the best-ever first-half refined metal production at Zinc India for the sixth consecutive year, the successful commissioning of Gamsberg Phase II at Zinc International, record chrome ore production with total ore procurement at FACOR, and peak quarterly cathode production at Copper India, where overall sales grew 16 percent year-on-year to 52 thousand tonnes. Misra emphasized that growth capital was strategically directed toward expanding capacities, developing mines, and securing long-term resources across the portfolio. Supported by disciplined execution, robust demand across core metal segments, and consistent cash generation, Vedanta continues to solidify its operational foundations while driving sustainable strategic growth and enhancing overall balance sheet resilience.
