Assam is experiencing a surge in dengue cases

Assam is experiencing a surge in dengue cases, with over 60% of the 1,003 cases reported since August 2024.

In densely populated areas of Greater Guwahati such as Zoo Road Tiniali, Bhaskar Nagar, and Geetanagar, there is a growing concern due to the increasing number of dengue infections. According to a senior health department official, the rise in dengue cases has coincided with a decrease in Japanese Encephalitis (JE) cases. The official stated, “As JE cases started declining, dengue surged in July and August. The situation is alarming, especially in Dima Hasao and parts of Guwahati.”
