Assam meets its 2024–2025 goal for the procurement of all paddy

Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that the state had successfully met its 2024–25 paddy procurement goal. For the first time, the state has achieved its full goal, demonstrating the notable advancements made in Assam’s agricultural industry. As of June 8, 2025, 5,85,012.75 metric tonnes of paddy have been purchased, marking the milestone. 5,85,500 metric tons was the goal for this purchase period. The purchase window is still open until June 30, 2025, despite falling barely short of the predetermined target as of early June.

Assam has historically relied on agriculture as a major economic engine, so this accomplishment is seen as a noteworthy success in increasing the state’s agricultural output. The achievement demonstrates how well the state government’s present procurement practices and agriculture policies are working. Chief Minister Sarma emphasized how important this milestone is to the story of agriculture in Assam. Reaching the entire procurement goal, he said, marks a new phase in the state’s development.

It is anticipated that this move will boost farmers’ trust in government programs and have a good effect on the state’s economy. The cooperative efforts of the state government, farmers, and agricultural organizations are evidenced by the successful acquisition. This remarkable accomplishment appears to be the result of initiatives to promote farmers and optimize procurement procedures. This continuous procedure aims to provide a strong basis for Assamese agricultural development going forward by setting an even higher standard for succeeding years.
