The Delhi 3rd Ring Road is set to receive an 82km eastern extension

NHAI plans to extend Delhi’s third Ring Road east to alleviate congestion on key arterial roads by routing traffic through northeast Delhi into Ghaziabad and Noida.

The six-lane highway, part of the UER-II expansion, will connect Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, providing a seamless corridor for commuters and long-distance traffic.

The extension was one of the top infrastructure goals mentioned during a June 4 meeting between Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari and Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, according to a senior government official who asked not to be named.

The official, who asked to remain anonymous, stated, “The objective is to decongest Delhi by creating alternative corridors that allow intercity and freight traffic to avoid the city centre.”

The initial 17 km of the extension is expected to cost ₹3,350 crore, according to an NHAI project study. This section will connect the Delhi-Dehradun Motorway and UER-II close to

“An alternate bypass that reroutes traffic between Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand is the idea. This will lessen traffic on the Barapullah corridor, Ring Road, NH-44, and NH-48 (Delhi-Jaipur), the official continued.
