Farah Khan said Bollywood celebrated when her film Tees Maar Khan failed: ‘People said Abhi Aayi Na Line Par’

In a new vlog, director Farah Khan and producer Jacky Bhagnani open up about the box office failure of their films Tees Maar Khan and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan respectively.

Farah Khan and her chef Dilip are back with another vlog – this time, they were invited by producer Jackky Bhagnani and his wife, actress Rakul Preet Singh to their plush home. In the video, the director opened up about the failure of his 2010 film Tees Maar Khan and how the industry celebrated it. On the other hand, the producer revealed that his father Vashu Bhagnani used to sell saris on the footpath in his early days.

The vlog began with Dilip and Farah reaching their home, but they reached the wrong floor. The lift at Jackky and Rakulpreet’s home adds to the beauty of their dream home. As they stood in their plush lobby and knocked on the door, the celebrity couple welcomed them. From multiple living rooms, a beautiful pool area to a kitchen adorned with white marble, their home had everything. Farah said, “Jackky, hum log ko bhi producer banna hai.” He replied, “Producer nahi banna.” He laughingly replied, “Don’t become a producer, because earlier they had ten floors and after becoming a producer, only five are left.”

After introducing the filmmaker to his team of cooks, he started cooking Sindhi mutton. When Farah Khan praised his amazing kitchen, Jackie joked, “When we started dating, Rakul saw the kitchen and said yes. I don’t like standing in the kitchen at all, but I thought it would be nice if I have to cook something.” When he gave her a tour of the house, she asked, “Tell me, how did all this happen, from producing, Papa’s property or your acting? I should know which direction to go in.”

“It’s a combination, nothing like that. Films will always be the first love, but…,” he said. “Money,” Farah laughed.

When asked about their first date and relationship, the producer said, “During the lockdown, a common friend of ours called me and told me that I have a friend named Rakulpreet Singh, it’s her brother’s birthday and they need a bottle of vodka. It had been 60 days of lockdown, my parents were stuck in London. The other neighbours in the building hadn’t shifted till then, so I was alone in a 16-floor building. I thought this is a good opportunity for a bottle of vodka. Call now!”

“Me, my brother, we came wearing PPE kits, sanitised the bottle and took it from her. We never called her, took the bottle and left,” Rakulpreet said, regretting not inviting her to the party. “After 15 days, her brother asked for another bottle. I said this time bring some food,” she added. Then, the two became friends, started talking and started dating after a year.

They continued the conversation by showing more places in the house – a huge temple room, balcony, mini pool area, party room with bar area. Their love story blossomed when Jacky invited Rakulpreet for their first date in the house. Sitting in the same room, he revealed, “He was about to go to London and wanted to meet before he leaves for Diwali.”

“The special thing was that I put music on because I am a dancer. I did everything, she didn’t even move,” he said.

As they entered another of the many halls, Jacky Bhagnani pointed out that it was a hall made of a dance floor. Rakul said, “His parties were very famous before I met him. I have never seen that side of him.”

Jacky also revealed how people from the film industry made nasty comments about the box office performance of her film, Bellbottom, with Akshay, which released during Covid.

Farah Khan recalls the failure of her 2010 directorial Tees Maar Khan and says, “In our industry, people are more happy about others’ failure than their own success. I remember, during the release of Tees Maar Khan, there was a real celebration in the film industry. People I have worked with were saying, ‘Abhi aayi na line par’. Tees Maar Khan is a legend among Generation Z, they don’t care about my other films. Karenge, banayenge, aur badi banayenge.”

Vashu and Jacky Bhagnani’s production house Pooja Entertainment suffered a major setback after ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ failed big at the box office. Farah then spoke about how the Bhagnani family must have been affected by their previous failure. “That was a huge failure. People get devastated. Hats off to Vashu ji for just keeping moving forward.”

Jackie replied, “Our training comes from him. They used to sell everything on the footpath. I was not born at that time. But in front of me too, the same thing happened during Om Jai Jagdish. I have seen him go from zero to ‘Chalo Saath Mein Doodh Banaye’ 3-4 times,” Jackie said, revealing the struggles of his father and producer Vashu Bhagnani.

After giving him some great gifts and tasting the mutton, they went back home. The episode is available on Farah Khan’s YouTube channel.
