Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has won a major transmission project worth an estimated Rs 4,700 crore in Maharashtra to facilitate the evacuation of up to 4,500 MW of renewable and pumped storage power.
The project, titled “Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4500 MW) – Part A”, was awarded through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding process, with AESL emerging as the lowest bidder.
The project is aimed at facilitating the evacuation of renewable power generated in Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra while supporting the expanding pumped storage ecosystem across Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
To be implemented through the special purpose vehicle Satara Power Transmission Ltd, the project is scheduled to be completed within 36 months. It will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio.
With the addition, AESL’s transmission network will increase to 29,739 circuit kilometres, while its cumulative transformation capacity will rise to 1,43,425 MVA.
The project includes the construction of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a 765 kV double-circuit transmission line between Kolhapur and Satara, and augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station along with other associated transmission infrastructure.
AESL CEO Kandarp Patel said pumped storage projects are becoming an important component of India’s clean energy transition by providing the flexibility and reliability required to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the electricity grid.
He said the Satara project would create an important transmission backbone for renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment while strengthening power flows between southern and western India.
AESL said the project would contribute to the development of future-ready transmission infrastructure as India moves towards its target of installing 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030.
The company said its transmission order book now stands at approximately Rs 85,000 crore. The new project will further expand its role in connecting renewable energy sources, including solar, wind and pumped storage, with major industrial and urban power consumption centres.
