In Assam, people have been experiencing heatwaves and lack of rainfall, forcing farmers to forego sowing paddy seedlings in their fields. The IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati reported that several districts received more than 5 cm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. Moderate rain is expected in many places over Assam, with no large temperature changes. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely to occur in isolated places. The maximum temperature in Guwahati on Sunday was 29 degrees Celsius, 3.7 degrees below normal. Other places recorded higher temperatures, including Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lumding, North Lakhimpur, Silchar, and Goalpara. The RMC issued a forecast for Monday, predicting moderate rain and no significant temperature changes.
