Medanta – The Medicity, named India’s Best Private Hospital by Newsweek for six consecutive years, is expanding its economic and healthcare footprint in the Northeast through an awareness program in Shillong. The initiative, held with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Meghalaya branch and Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA), spotlighted treatment of brachial plexus injuries and the use of computer-assisted plastic surgery in complex reconstructions.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Khazanchi, Chairman, Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at Medanta, said timely surgical intervention—preferably within six months—offered favourable outcomes for brachial plexus injuries, often caused by road accidents or birth trauma. He added that computer-aided plastic surgery, enhanced by 3-D modeling and AI-based planning, was reshaping craniofacial procedures by improving precision and reducing risks.
The program highlights the region’s shifting healthcare economics. With rising cases of accident-related injuries and limited access to advanced reconstructive care, demand for high-end medical services is growing. Analysts note that initiatives like Medanta’s could attract greater investment, reduce outbound medical travel, and create new opportunities for healthcare-linked employment and infrastructure development in towns. The event was attended by IMA and MMSA leaders including Dr. C Daniala and Dr. Bhaskar Borgohain.
