Anurag Kashyap Calls ‘The Kerala Story 2’ Divisive Propaganda

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has sparked a major controversy by slamming the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, labeling it “bullsh*t propaganda” intended to incite hatred and divide society. Speaking to reporters at the Kochi airport while arriving for the Filmfare Awards South on February 22, 2026, the Gangs of Wasseypur director criticized the film’s creative intent and its portrayal of sensitive communal themes. Kashyap specifically singled out a viral scene from the trailer depicting a character being force-fed beef, dismissing it as unrealistic and sensationalized by stating, “No one even force-feeds someone khichdi in this manner.” He further alleged that the filmmakers are “greedy” and primarily motivated by profit rather than artistic or social truth. The comments have drawn a sharp rebuttal from the film’s director, Kamakhya Narayan Singh, who defended the project as being based on documented legal cases of forced conversion and accused Kashyap of being “mentally unstable” and habitually critical of national narratives. The exchange comes amid a heated political climate, as Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also condemned the film for tarnishing the state’s secular image, while the Kerala High Court has issued notices to the producers following a petition to halt its February 27 release. As the debate over creative freedom versus communal harmony intensifies, Kashyap’s blunt assessment has reinforced his position as one of the industry’s most vocal critics of politically charged cinema.
