On the occasion of National Forest Martyrs’ Day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday paid his respects to those who sacrificed their lives while protecting forests, wildlife and natural heritage.
“On National Forest Martyrs’ Day, I pay my respects to those who made the supreme sacrifice protecting our forests, wildlife and natural heritage,” the chief minister said in a social media post, adding that the state government is committed to strengthening the forest force.
“From strengthening our forest force to empowering women through Van Durgas, Assam is committed to carrying forward their courage and protecting our forests for generations to come,” he said.
The chief minister also shared pictures of women forest personnel, ‘Van Durgas’, serving on the frontlines of forest protection.
National Forest Martyrs Day is observed every year on September 11 in India to honour forest guards, rangers, officials, and local community members who sacrificed their lives protecting the country’s forests and wildlife.
