The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will observe “Zubeen Garg Smriti Sandhya” across the state on the evening of September 19, commemorating the first death anniversary of Assam’s cultural icon and legendary artiste, Zubeen Garg.
A notification in this regard has been issued in accordance with a directive of APCC president and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, asking all district Congress Committees across the state to organise the tribute programme.
According to the notification, all district committees will organise “Zubeen Garg Smriti Sandhya” in a solemn atmosphere in memory of the legendary artist and the enduring voice of the people of Assam.
As part of the programme, the district committees have been asked to install a large portrait of Zubeen Garg at a prominent location in each district and light lamps as a mark of deep respect.
In addition, the party has issued clear instructions to organise a peaceful procession carrying the portrait of the late artist.
“The entire programme has been specifically directed to be conducted with utmost sincerity, solemnity and cultural dignity, as a tribute to Zubeen Garg’s unparalleled contribution to Assam’s cultural landscape,” a statement issued by the Assam PCC on Thursday, said.
