Assam is set to introduce 80 new schools in the tea garden regions

The Assam Government plans to open 80 new model schools in tea garden areas, as part of its long-term vision to improve education in remote and underserved regions, alongside initiatives like mid-day meal schemes and smart classroom facilities.

118 SCHOOLS ALREADY FUNCTIONING: In November 2022, 118 schools were established in various tea garden belts, aiming to improve educational access for children in tea estate areas. The government plans to establish 80 more schools across 23 districts.

IMPROVED INFRASTRUCTURE AND INCLUSIVITY: The government is committed to improving school infrastructure and teacher service conditions in model schools, encouraging students from diverse communities to enroll. The schools will feature smart classrooms, science labs, libraries, and playgrounds for holistic learning.

FOCUS ON TEACHER TRAINING AND ADARSHA VIDYALAYAS: Mr. Sarma announced the Assam Government’s plans to formalize one year of compulsory apprentice training for BEd students in tea garden model schools and Adarsha Vidyalayas, aiming to expand educational access and improve the quality and inclusiveness of education in the tea garden regions.
