Renowned Assamese singer and politician Simanta Shekhar has announced his resignation as Chairman of the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation and has also stepped down from the BJP’s Assam state executive committee as well as the party’s primary membership.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Shekhar said he had submitted his resignation letters to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state BJP president.
Clarifying the reasons behind his decision, Shekhar stated that the move was taken purely on personal grounds and was not linked to any disagreement with the BJP’s ideology, policies or leadership.
He further announced that he does not intend to join or remain associated with any political party in the future.
Expressing gratitude to the BJP, Shekhar extended his best wishes to party leaders, workers and supporters, hoping for the party’s continued success in serving the people of Assam.
He also conveyed his good wishes to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressing hope that Assam would continue its path of development and progress under his leadership.
Concluding his statement, Shekhar said that his love, respect and commitment towards Assam and the Assamese people would remain unchanged despite his departure from active politics.
