Binance commits Rs 3.3 crore to support Assam flood relief and recovery

Binance Charity, the philanthropic arm of Binance, has committed Rs 3.3 crore ($350,000) to Goonj’sRahat Initiative to support emergency relief and longer-term recovery efforts in flood-affected areas of Assam. The contribution is expected to support around 27,500 families across 349 affected villages in Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Bajali, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Jorhat districts. Funds will be used to provide essential relief materials, including household items, hygiene supplies, tarpaulins and other necessities, based on the needs of affected communities.

Assam has witnessed one of its most severe flood situations in decades, with more than 12 lakh people across 25 districts and 2,734 villages affected at various stages this year, while the reported death toll has risen to 105. SB Seker, Head of APAC at Binance, said, “By working with Goonj’s ‘Rahat Initiative’, we hope our contribution will provide urgent relief on the ground and help families begin the long journey of rebuilding and recovering.”

Anshu Gupta, Founder of Goonj, said continued rainfall had forced people into makeshift arrangements, while stored grain and livelihoods had been lost. “A long term intervention is needed apart from the immediate support and that is what we are aiming for,” he said. In Guwahati, the relief commitment underscores the growing role of corporate and philanthropic capital in disaster response, with spending on essential goods, logistics and recovery materials potentially supporting local supply chains as flood-hit communities move from emergency relief towards rebuilding.
