Bribery Charges Lead to Arrest of Senior ACS Officer Following Major Raid

Lachit Kumar Das, a senior Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer, was arrested from his office in Guwahati after allegedly being caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 45,000.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption reportedly recovered a large amount of cash and valuables during a raid at Das’s residence in the Beltola area of the city following his arrest on corruption charges.

According to officials, investigators seized nearly Rs 50 lakh in cash, more than half a kilogram of gold ornaments, and fixed deposit receipts worth around Rs 70 lakh from the officer’s flat. Several life insurance certificates were also recovered during the operation, which continued till late at night.

Das, who was serving as the Additional Director in the Land Records Department, was allegedly caught accepting the bribe from a person seeking a land purchase permission document.

Investigators also suspect that the officer may have violated government norms related to land transactions and allegedly extorted money in exchange for facilitating certain approvals.

Authorities further claimed that Das possessed substantial assets in Guwahati, including land at multiple locations, luxury apartments and several high-end vehicles.

The investigation is currently underway, and officials are trying to determine the full extent of the properties and assets linked to the accused officer.
