Celebrate International Museum Day with Free Access to Kohima Museum

Visitors will be able to explore the State Museum, Kohima for free on May 18 and 19 as part of celebrations marking International Museum Day on May 18. According to an official statement, the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Nagaland, will observe International Museum Day 2026 at the State Museum, Kohima on May 18 in line with the global initiative of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The theme for International Museum Day 2026 is “Museums Uniting a Divided World”, highlighting the role of museums in promoting cultural dialogue, preserving identity, encouraging knowledge-sharing, and fostering peace and harmony among diverse communities.

To mark the occasion, the Department has announced free entry for all visitors to the State Museum, Kohima on May 18 and 19. Students, scholars, researchers, educational institutions, tourists, and the general public are invited to visit the museum and experience the rich cultural heritage, traditional artefacts, and historical collections preserved there. The observance aims to encourage greater public engagement with museums and create awareness about the importance of preserving and promoting Nagaland’s cultural ceritage for future generations, the statement added.
