Scheduled flight operations resumed at Dimapur Airport on Sunday, a day after services were disrupted following heavy rainfall and waterlogging in parts of Dimapur. According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airport recorded three scheduled arrivals and three departures on August 9. A total of 549 passengers arrived at the airport, while 553 passengers departed, taking the overall passenger movement for the day to 1,102. Flight operations had been cancelled or disrupted on August 8 amid heavy rainfall and waterlogging in several parts of Dimapur, affecting air connectivity in the region.
The weather, however, remained a concern, with the Meteorological Centre, Kohima, forecasting heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm in 24 hours from August 9 over Dimapur, Mon, Kiphire, Longleng, Zunheboto, Tuensang and Kohima. Very heavy rainfall of 12–20 cm was also forecast over Wokha and Mokokchung. The weather advisory warned of poor visibility, landslides and landslips, waterlogging in low-lying areas and roads, traffic disruptions and damage to kutcha roads. The possibility of flash floods was also highlighted. Heavy rain could further affect crops at the maturity stage and vulnerable structures.
Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Dimapur, has advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement through waterlogged areas.
