The Dimapur district administration has issued a notice convening a special meeting of the elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on May 22 for consideration of a motion of no-confidence against the incumbent Chairperson of the council Hukheto Yepthomi. According to the notice issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, the motion was initiated after 12 out of the 23 elected members of the DMC submitted a notice of intention to move the no-confidence motion. The notice was delivered by two elected members of the council and was received by the Deputy Commissioner.
The notice further stated that the motion was scrutinized and found to be in conformity with the procedural and substantive requirements laid down under Chapter-II, Section 15 (1) and (2) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, including the requirement of support by not less than the statutorily mandated number of elected members.
Following the verification, the Deputy Commissioner expressed satisfaction that the motion was procedurally valid and warranted the convening of a special meeting for consideration of the motion.
The special meeting has been scheduled to be held at 11 am on May 22 at the office of the Dimapur Municipal Council, and elected members of the DMC have been directed to attend the meeting.
