Health Minister conducting review of Darrang medical facilities and acknowledged shortage of specialists

Assam’s Health Minister Ashok Singhal conducted visits to various health centres in the Darrang district to tackle issues within the public health sector. He acknowledged a deficiency of specialist doctors attributed to the limited number of postgraduate seats available in medical colleges, while dismissing any claims of a shortage of general MBBS graduates. Singhal also addressed the ineffectiveness of flow irrigation projects in the district and highlighted the necessity for mobile irrigation initiatives that utilize smaller wetlands. He convened a comprehensive review meeting with the civil hospital authority, urging health officials and staff to uphold operational efficiency. Additionally, Singhal inspected the Dhansiri irrigation project, instructing the chief engineer to compile an annual maintenance report and mandating the construction of barricades along the primary river. He further established a seven-day deadline for the district commissioner to collaborate with the forest and irrigation departments to eliminate large stones that are obstructing the Dhansiri river.
