Thirteen national-level shooters from Bhutan have arrived in Siliguri, West Bengal, for a two-week high-performance training camp being held from January 7 to 20 under the India–Bhutan cooperation framework. The programme, hosted at Olympian Jitu Rai’s Shooting Academy, is aimed at strengthening Bhutan’s competitive shooting capabilities and enhancing international performance standards. The initiative falls under India’s Neighbourhood First policy, which extends support to neighbouring nations across sectors including sports development. The Indian Embassy in Bhutan said the camp reflects strong bilateral cooperation in sports and youth development, wishing success to the athletes and coaches.
According to the Bhutan Shooting Federation, the delegation includes five rifle shooters, eight pistol shooters, and two coaches. The camp focuses on technical skill enhancement, competition readiness, and international exposure. It is funded through the Indo-Bhutan Partnership Programme, reinforcing long-standing ties between the two countries. The Federation also thanked the Government of India for sustained support in nurturing Bhutan’s sporting talents.
The camp is expected to provide Bhutanese shooters with structured exposure and advanced training facilities, contributing to the long-term development of shooting sports in the Himalayan nation.
