Nag Ashwin’s mythology-inspired sci-fi epic’s futuristic universe is expanding sooner than we thought. As per the latest reports, the much-anticipated sequel, Kalki 2, is officially eyeing a theatrical release in December 2027. After the mega worldwide success of the first part which grossed over Rs 1,000 crore, the production has now kicked into high gear with Rebel Star Prabhas joining the crucial new schedule in Hyderabad recently. The team hopes to complete principal photography by April of 2027, to allow for an intensive eight-month post-production period that will be necessary given the film’s reliance on groundbreaking visual effects and intricate world-building.
The sequel is all set to delve into the escalating conflict between Prabhas’s Bhairava and the menacing Supreme Yaskin played by legendary actor Kamal Haasan. Fans are also eager to witness the first on-screen reunion of Indian cinema stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan after decades, with Haasan’s character taking centre stage. While there are reports that Sai Pallavi may sign on for a key role, the project is a logistical feat for Prabhas who is balancing his schedule with other big projects like Spirit. If the December 2027 window remains, Kalki 2 will be in a titanic box office clash with major international tentpoles, making it one of the most ambitious cinematic events in Indian history.
