Manipur weightlifter Chanambam Rishikanta Singh has set his sights on winning gold at the upcoming Asian Games after securing a silver medal in the men’s 60kg category at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Rishikanta, who emerged as one of India’s notable performers in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games, said his latest achievement was the result of support from his family, friends, coaches and sporting institutions.
Speaking after his Commonwealth Games success, the young weightlifter expressed gratitude to those who had supported him throughout his sporting career.
“I want to give credit to everyone—my parents, family members, nearby friends, the Sports Authority of India and the federation. Everyone deserves credit,” he said.
With the Commonwealth Games now behind him, Rishikanta said his focus has shifted to the Asian Games, where he hopes to improve on his recent performance and win the top prize.
“The Asian Games are coming. I hope to win gold,” he said.
His Commonwealth silver medal has also drawn praise from BJP MLA Sapam Ranjan Singh, who described the achievement as a proud moment for both Manipur and the country.
Ranjan Singh said Rishikanta belongs to his constituency and congratulated the weightlifter, his family and all those who had contributed to his sporting journey.
“It’s a very proud moment for our country. He is from my constituency. Hearty congratulations to him, to his family and also to all the people who have supported him,” the MLA said.
The MLA also highlighted Manipur’s long-standing contribution to Indian sports, saying the state has consistently produced athletes who have represented the country and achieved success at national and international competitions.
Rishikanta’s silver medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games adds to Manipur’s record of producing athletes in weightlifting and other sporting disciplines.
