Global Health Limited, which operates hospitals under the Medanta brand, is expanding access to advanced renal care through its robotic kidney transplant programme at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram, targeting patients across the Northeast through local consultation and referral services.
More than 2 lakh people in India are estimated to require kidney transplants, while only around 13,600 procedures were performed in 2023, according to a study published in the Indian Journal of Nephrology. Medanta’s minimally invasive robotic approach uses specialised instruments and magnified 3D visualisation, potentially reducing blood loss, post-operative pain and recovery time.
Dr. Prasun Ghosh, Chairman of Urology, Robotic Surgery and Kidney Transplant at Medanta Gurugram, highlighted the importance of coordinated care involving nephrology, anaesthesia, pathology, intensive care and transplant surgery. Lifelong medication, kidney-function monitoring and follow-up remain essential after transplantation.
In Guwahati, the initiative could improve access to specialised transplant consultations and referrals, reducing the need for patients and families to navigate healthcare options without local guidance. Dr. Ghosh will consult at Medanta Mediclinic Guwahati on October 31 at Ambika Shrine, Beltola–Basistha Road, Dispur. Appointments are available at +91 8826312002.
Medanta has introduced a dedicated Northeast helpline, +91 8904395588, operating from 8 am to 8 pm in Assamese, Bengali, Nagamese, English and Hindi. The company operates six hospitals across India and has announced five upcoming facilities, including one in Guwahati.
